Wala-ing

Thanks to everyone who came down to Wala on thurs and last night for our "covering UnXpected" gigs, it was a real blast! Plus my voice is really husky ala Laura Fygi right now.. (I blame the drummer. HA.)

It really was funny how everyone was just staring blankly at me for the whole first set, I kept thinking 'what the hell is wrong with the crowd??' Couldn't tell if they were just bored shitless or in complete awe of the band. (I'd like to think it was the latter. hurhur) Took a while for them to warm up, I cracked a few bad jokes here and there, that got them laughing a little. Plus Kah Wai added a bit of life by coming up to give us request after request after request. (I think everyone knows who six roses lover is, so you're safe man.) Thank GOD they drank quite a bit between the 1st and 2nd set break, it got rowdier and more alive. SO FUN!

Anyway, yesterday was my Pri school class reunion. We all just hit it off again so easily, everyone had a great time. They even came to Wala after dinner at Swensens! I have to say that we were a really close class, everyone got along with each other (minus a few weirdos) really well. And everyone FINALLY believes me now when I say that Chong Yew looks EXACTLY the same!!! Even when I sent Liang Si the collage I did, she immediately msned me "Chong Yew looks exactly... but EXACTLY the same!!!"

But eh, I think my voice is lower than yours now lah. HAHAHA!!!

So good to see all of you again! Del, thanks for organising this. You will kena arrow again for the next outing when Liang Si and everyone else comes back in a few weeks' time!

Stuff.

So many things have happened in the last few days, for eg, Alvin and I are no longer known as "Sara n Alvin" or "Jazz In A" (at least not for pub gigs), we're now known as "53A". Why? Cause that's where we always jam, at Haji Lane 53A, better known as Hoity Toity/Lovie's shop. Lame? You try to think of something un-cheesy and meaningful to us all at the same time.

Anyway, Tony's was asking us to form a full band with a drummer to play at Wala Wala, starting next yr. This is a good sign that we'll be sticking around for a while longer. HAHA. Anyway, we obviously agreed and said we'd do just that. But Tony being Tony just took matters into his own hands and grrrrrrabbed (sorry, couldn't resist it) Brendan Khoo, who just happened to be there that night, and said that he was our new drummer. Of course we don't mind man, half our band is made of Unexpected's members! hahaha Lotus has promised me eternal loyalty and a legion of equally fanatic groupies everytime she comes down now. hurhur

Then while we were playing at Acid Bar, Alv got a call from Chris Ho aka Xris Ho, asking us if we were free to do a radio interview with him. In case you didn't know, Lush 99.5FM asked Alv and I to send them a proper recording of us performing a few Jazz songs so that they could feature us on their segment about local artistes and promoting them. Apart from the occasional blooper and Lovie and I turning several shades of purple from trying not to laugh aloud listening to Chris Ho's unintended sexual connotations, the interview was really fun. So if you listen Lush 99.5FM, you'll hear Alv and I go "Hi I'm Alvin, and I'm Sara. And we're... Jazz In A! And you're listening to Lush 99.5FM!" Don't know when everything's gonna be aired though, so I'll post the date and time up once I know so you can all have a good laugh at our expense.

Oh and I dyed my hair today. SORRY ELMI!!! Today's the only day I'm free for a loooong time, so I couldn't wait till the 20th. It's really nice, it's dark brown with blonde highlights. But the stylist had to bleach the highlights, so my hair's really dry and damaged now. UGH. Conditioners of all sorts will be my best friends for now.

Benson tomorrow!!! Can't wait!

Adrenaline Rush.

Alv and I finally know the thrills of playing with a bassist and the feeling of really being appreciated. The crowd and staff were responsive and really got into the music with us, and people were really there solely for the music. There was this table of girls and guys around my age, and the girls were so cute. They slipped us so many requests, and the greetings gradually grew from hello to sara to dear sara to dear amazing sara. heh

Everyone was singing along to the songs with us, laughing at my super lame jokes, even the staff were cheering us on. Tony Goh (the guy in-charge of music at Balaclava and Wala, go to : www.greenroomsuite.com) says that the regulars and staff like us so much they want us back, which made us so happy. But the pressure to be good and up to standard there is so great, i guess it's good cause it keeps us grounded and not let the praises and well wishes get to our heads.

There was one gross table though, they called themselves the "horny table". I had names for two tables, one was the "happy table" cause they were all freaking wasted and dancing and singing along to all the songs. Then there was the "request table", the one I mentioned earlier on. So I dedicated one of the songs to the "happy" and "request" table, then this guy at the table behind Lovie's shouts "What about the horny table?" They were horrible, I ignored them the whole time, and the guy turns out to be Alv's sec sch friend. Oh joy. Even Alv hates him, says he was damn annoying even in SJI. Worst part was when we were onstage and we starting smelling cigarette smoke, after which we found out from Lovie that the guy was smoking at the table (Wala 2nd level is non-smoking). Lovie complained to one of the waiters about them and he told them to stop smoking, after which they started kao bei-ing and shouting hokkien vulgarities. People like these should be banned from public places altogether.

Oh well, when you guys are free, pop by Wala's on Monday night!

OMG.

Alv and I are going to start playing at Walla's (in case you didn't know, it's the music pub at Holland V) regularly on Monday Nights, we've taken over UnXpected's slot.

OMG.
